Art through ELEN's Lens
The Arts are:
Multifaceted
Fostering the arts acknowledges and supports various forms of artistic expression, including fine arts (painting, sculpture, etc.), performing arts (music, theater, dance), visual arts, media arts, culinary arts, and liberal arts (literature, philosophy, etc.).
Valuable
The arts contribute to creating well-rounded, introspective, and cultivated individuals. Engaging with art encourages empathy, emotional intelligence, and critical thinking. It provides a means for people to explore their inner selves, understand different perspectives, and cultivate a deeper appreciation for beauty and creativity in the world.
Important
Fostering the arts recognizes that artistic pursuits are equally important as STEM fields for human excellence. The Arts have the ability to drive innovation and progress along with being a foundation for emotional and cultural enrichment, contributing to a holistic and balanced education that nurtures both the intellect and the soul.
Impactful
The arts have a profound impact on society, shaping culture, challenging norms, and fostering social change. Artistic expressions can inspire people to take action, promote unity, and address pressing social issues. The arts contribute to a sense of identity and community, bringing people together through shared experiences and creating opportunities for cultural exchange.
The Arts need to be more:
Inclusive
With their inherent diversity and multifaceted nature, the Arts call for proactive engagement of artists and audience from diverse backgrounds, cultures, and identities. Emphasizing inclusivity ensures that different perspectives and voices are represented and celebrated within the Arts.
Diverse
Embracing diversity in the Arts involves promoting a wide range of artistic expressions, styles, and genres that reflect the richness of cultural, social, and artistic traditions. Celebrating diversity helps create a vibrant and dynamic arts landscape that appeals to a broader audience.
Equitable
Fostering the Arts with equity in mind involves addressing and eliminating barriers that may prevent marginalized groups from fully participating in artistic activities. This can include providing resources, opportunities, and support to underrepresented artists and ensuring fair representation and recognition in the arts sector.
Accessible
Making the Arts accessible means removing physical, financial, and social obstacles that might hinder individuals from experiencing or participating in artistic activities. This could involve offering affordable programs or providing accommodations for neurodiverse people.
